Access Statement for Clare House

Introduction

Clare House is a 4 star silver award guest house situated in Swanage Town centre only 60m from the High Street, close to shops, restaurants and bars.  Clare House is a 100+ year-old Georgian building lacking the facilities of modern buildings and is therefore unsuitable for guests needing wheelchair access or for those with restricted mobility.  We have no ground floor bedrooms

Pre-Arrival

Bookings for Clare House may be made by: telephone, fax, royal mail, online through Eviivo or e- mail via our website; large print booking forms can be make available if required.  We are not able to accommodate animals.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

Our check- in time is between 4.00pm and 8.00pm unless by prior arrangement.  When you arrive you will be given a key to come and go as you please.
 
Clare House is situated 60 meters from Swanage High Street on Park Road. No private parking facilities are available though free, unrestricted parking is allowed on Park Road. The area immediately outside the Clare House front door is restricted for loading and unloading, offering visitors the opportunity to unload luggage at the front door prior to parking their car. In addition to the availability of parking on Park Road a public car park is located 200 meters from Clare House along a level pathway.  From the High Street, Park Road slopes upward towards Clare House. Public transport serves the town with buses running from Wareham and Bournemouth railway stations and from Poole bus station (Dorset & Wilts bus service: 01020 673555 – www.wdbus.co.uk ), from the nearest bus stop to Clare House it is a 500m walk along level ground.  Private hire taxis are also available, and by prior arrangement a private car may be booked.

Main Entrance & Reception

Access to Clare House reception, on the ground floor, is through a standard 1.5m front door, over a 2 inch stone step.  This offers access to a seated reception area and the dining room where further seating is available, though access is unsuitable for wheelchairs or for guests with limited mobility. The entrance area is well lit with a lamp positioned above the front door. A pen and paper is available on arrival. We can assist with guests’ luggage.

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe

The dining room is situated on the ground floor, with access from reception through a 1.5m door. Dining room furniture is movable; dining chairs are available with or without arms and all tables have central support columns.  Breakfast is included in the cost of accommodation with the full selection described on a written menu; the menu may be made available in large print or read out by a member of staff. With notice Clare House is able to accommodate most special dietary requirements. 

Bedrooms

There are 23 stairs up to the 1st floor where 3 bedrooms are situated and a further 23 steps up to the 2nd floor where another 3 bedrooms are located. Each bedroom is equipped with: a digital television and DVD player controlled by remote controller - a small library of DVDs is available for guests. A PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation 2 may be booked on arrival, as may a limited number of games, though guests are invited to bring their own games if they so wish. Bedside facilities – tea, coffee etc. and a digital clock-radio are also provided.
All bedrooms have smoke detectors.  The house is centrally heated and the radiators may be controlled from each bedroom.

Bathrooms

All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms or shower rooms, larger bathrooms are available in our larger room rooms. Bathroom fittings are standard and are therefore not suitable for guests with restricted mobility or with impaired sight.
